The Southern African Development Community (SADC) was established in 1980, promoting regional cooperation in economic development. SADC's Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources (FANR) Directorate in Gaborone, Botswana produces a Food Security Early Warning System in conjunction with FEWSNET during he growing season (usually October to April) providing information on rainfall, vegetation, and crop monitoring across Southern Africa related to food security.
