No. 11 / Volume 19

Overview

In most part of the country, land preparation and planting of second crop lowland palay and dry season corn is going on. During the month, major areas of the country experienced below normal rainfall condition, although near normal to above normal rainfall were observed in northern and central Luzon, Mindoro, northern tip of Panay Island, northern Samar, Bukidnon and Davao. The observed weather systems that affected the country were the tail-end of cold front, the Intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and three (3) tropical cyclones namely: tropical storm “Viring” (October 30 – November 4) tropical storm “Weng” (November 12 – 15) and typhoon “Yoyoy” (November 27 – 30).

Region I

Harvesting of first crop lowland palay is going on with near normal harvest is expected. Land preparation in the region is going on, although rainfall during the period is insufficient for planting activities.

Region II

In Cagayan Valley, rainfall during the month is very beneficial for land preparation and planting of corn crops.

Region III

Land preparation and transplanting of second crop lowland palay is going on. Moisture supply for the month is near normal.

Region IV

In most part of the region, planting of second crop lowland palay and dry season corn crops started. Rainfall for the month of November is favorable for planting activities except in Palawan, where moisture supply is insufficient for planting of rice and corn crops.

Region V

Land preparation and transplanting of lowland palay and dry season corn crops is in progress. Rainfall during the period is still sufficient for farming activities.

Region VI

Sufficient rain in November favored planting of dry season corn in the northern part of Panay Island. In southern part of the region however, crop condition for second crop lowland palay is below normal as suggested by the YMIs. More rains are needed for crop growth and development.

Region VII

Land preparation and planting of dry season corn is undertaken in northern section of Region VII. Favorable weather condition prevails during the month. While in the southern part of the region moisture supply is insufficient for farming activities.

Region VIII

November rainfall was very beneficial for the newly planted lowland second crop palay in eastern Visayas.

Region IX

Land preparation is going on in western Mindanao. During the month, moisture supply in the area is insufficient for farming activities.

Region X

Favorable weather condition benefited the newly planted dry season corn crop. Crop condition is normal as suggested by the YMIs.

CARAGA

Land preparation and transplanting of lowland palay was favored by good weather condition.

Region XI

Except in the southern section of the region, transplanting of lowland second crop palay is in full swing. Favorable weather condition prevails during the month.

Region XII

Planting of both second crop lowland palay and dry season corn crops are going on. Sufficient rainfall is needed for crop growth and development.

ARMM

Preparation for planting of rice and corn crops is going on. Moisture supply in the area is insufficient.
